"Electricity had preformed great wonders and has become the tireless servant of man. The welcome clean heat which the electric stove provides, is generated far from home through the waters of Lake Coleridge, but in the not too far distant future it is hoped that South Canterbury will provide its own source of generation from the unfathomed depths of the great Lake Tekapo, in the Mackenzie Country - a vast, silent body of water possessed of the almost unlimited power, and patiently awaiting the cal to the service of man."
This extract from the publication of the South Canterbury District Power Board November, 1923, when considered in conjunction with the present development of a chain of generating stations fed by the waters of Lake Tekapo, Pukaki and Ohau, exemplifies the foresight and judgment of those public spirited men who were the first involved in bringing power to South Canterbury.
