Planning Engineer

What’s involved:

Contributing to the network development planning team and associated deliverables through short to long term planning.

Tasks within the Planning Department include:

  • Assist in the developing and maintaining of the Planning Lifecycle Strategy.
  • Contribute to Distributed Energy Resources (DER) integration with our distribution network.
  • Participate in establishing and continual improvement of the Asset Management System.
  • Contribute to the improvement of our asset management maturity (AMMAT).
  • Managing the planning and architecture of the Network to ensure optimum utilisation of Network assets on a sustainable basis.

The successful candidate will ideally possess:

  • BE (Electrical) or equivalent and working towards registration as CPEng/IntPE.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience and track record in distribution network planning.
  • Previous experience/knowledge of ETAP or equivalent system modelling tool.
  • Commercial acumen and the proven ability to establish and work to budgets.
  • Knowledge of the Electricity Participation Code as they relate to distribution companies.
  • Knowledge of the Electricity Safety Regulations and SM-EI.
  • Knowledge of best industry practice (eg EEA guides, Cigre Technical Bulletins).
  • Proven electricity industry leadership and management ability.
  • Well-developed IT skills including experience working with computerized systems and a focus on utilizing modern technology in work & business management.

Commercial and Regulatory Analyst

What’s involved:

  • Support the meeting of our regulatory obligations as determined by the Commerce Commission under Part 4 of the Commerce Act and/or Electricity Authority under the Electricity Participation Code (the Code)
  • Set the annual lines charges for mass market and directly billed customers
  • Create, review and update our 5-year pricing strategy

The successful candidate will ideally possess:

  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and Access Databases
  • Ability to interpret Acts, Regulations and industry codes
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, (degree) in a legal, economic, financial or equivalent discipline
  • An understanding of the requirements of the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010 (the Code)
  • Ability to question processes and policies to find continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate project management experience, including leading project teams
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise a range of tasks
  • Ability to take and to give direction, as required by other team members

Trainee Line Mechanic- NETcon

April 2019

NETcon has a new opportunity for a Trainee Line Mechanic based in Timaru. Reporting to the Team Leader – Lines. This role involves the construction and maintenance of Electricity Distribution Infrastructure (Poles and Wires) within South Canterbury. Your work will require you to undertake a range of tasks including working at heights from ladders or bucket truck, use of HIAB cranes, assembling power pole components and construction duties.

What you'll need to succeed

You will be required to work in a team environment, be willing to train and learn a trade. The training aspect will take 2 years minimum, so commitment to training through Connexis, (Electricity Supply Industry Training Provider) will be required for a successful outcome.
