Solar update
A small but meaningful shift for solar in New Zealand has now taken effect.
From 1 May, the standard export limit for residential solar has increased from 5 kW to up to 10 kW. While many households won’t notice a day-to-day difference, it’s a positive step towards unlocking more value from solar - allowing customers to export more of what they generate, improve system economics, and better plan for things like EVs and batteries.
More broadly, this reflects the direction of travel for our energy system. As electricity demand grows and decarbonisation accelerates, enabling more customer generation at the edge of the network will be key. It's another step towards a more flexible, distributed energy future where customers play an increasingly active role.
