Connection charge reconciliation
Under Electricity Authority requirements, electricity distributors must be able to provide a standardised breakdown of connection charges. This is called a connection charge reconciliation.
A reconciliation shows how your connection charge is allocated into:
- The direct costs of connecting you to the network (incremental costs)
- Your potion of the cost of using the shared network (network cost contribution)
- The expected lines revenue you will pay via your power bill, over time (incremental revenue)
To request a reconciliation, email: networkapplications@alpineenergy.co.nz
What it means for you
You can request a reconciliation for your connection to better understand the charge that has been calculated.
A reconciliation:
- Is provided for transparency purposes.
- Does not change your quoted connection price.
- Uses a nationally standardised format set by the Electricity Authority.
- May group costs differently from your original quote.
For standard residential and small business connections, we provide a standard reconciliation based on average costs and revenues for that connection type, rather than preparing a customised model for every application.
Connection charge reconciliations follow a standard format required by the Electricity Authority and can be detailed and technical. If you'd like help understanding a reconciliation, you can refer to Electricity Networks Aotearoa's reconciliation explainer or contact us and our team will be happy to help.
Pioneer Schemes
Where a customer funds a network extension that may be used by future connections, our Pioneer Scheme helps ensure costs are shared fairly.
If another customer later connects using infrastructure that has already been funded by a previous customer, they may be required to contribute towards the original cost. A rebate is then paid to the customer who originally funded the extension.
This approach helps ensure that the cost of extending the network is shared fairly among the customers who benefit from it.
Alpine Energy administers the scheme, including:
- Determining whether a project qualifies as a Pioneer Scheme.
- Calculating contributions and rebates.
- Collecting payments from future connecting customers.
- Providing rebates to eligible pioneers.
Our policy has been developed to meet both the requirements of Part 6B.6 to 6B.9 of the Electricity Participation Code, as well as the policies and practices that guide our connections arrangements.
Further information is available in our
Current status: There are currently no active Pioneer Schemes.
