Solar Power Brochure

If you’re putting in solar panels, wind generation or any kind of small scale power generation and want to apply to feed power back into the grid, you will first need to apply to connect distributed generation.

From 1 May 2026, Alpine Energy will increase the default residential solar export limit from 5 kW to 10 kW, in line with national electricity rules. “Export” is the excess solar power sent back into the local network. Under the updated approach, most homes will be able to export up to 10 kW by default, with lower limits applying only where the local network is under pressure. Customers currently exporting at 5 kW can apply to increase to 10 kW at no cost. All new or updated residential export connections require an application, with systems 10 kW or less processed within 10 business days.

The below information outlines the process to be followed by if you're interested, or want to apply for a connection of distributed generation of any form such as solar, wind, hydro, bio gas etc to our electricity network.
