We’ve helped enable a first for South Canterbury

Last Friday, Lodestone Energy officially broke ground on its first South Island solar farm at Clandeboye — and we have played an important part in enabling it.

Once complete, the solar farm will generate 54 GWh of renewable energy each year, enough to power around 7,000 homes in our region (or about 3 Temuka's!).  This is a significant step forward for South Canterbury and for New Zealand’s renewable future.

While there’s still more work ahead before the farm is connected to our network, this milestone shows what can be achieved when we work together with partners like Lodestone.

The event was all about celebration. Lodestone shared their vision of every community one day having a solar farm like this — moving away from energy being centralised in one place. They spoke about the need for affordable, reliable energy across the country, and how projects like this are part of the solution. The media coverage reflected that same sense of optimism and momentum for renewable energy in our region.

When Caroline was asked for one word after planting her tree (breaking ground) the word was ‘Future’.

A huge thank you to everyone at Alpine — in some way, we’ve all helped make this possible.
