Heads up, Highfield!
Get ready to see something out of the ordinary. Between 15 July and 17 July, we’re removing overhead lines and poles from private properties between Orbell Street and Wai-iti Road. This is a big job, and it means we’ll be using a large crane operating from Glenwood Avenue. As this isn’t an everyday occurrence, we’re giving the community a heads up.
What’s happening?
We’ll be using a large crane operating from Glenwood Avenue to remove poles from residential properties. This is part of our ongoing project to move electrical equipment underground between Centennial Park and Pages Road. Due to the location of the poles, we need to remove, using a crane is the safest and most efficient option.
What does this mean for you?
We’re replacing old poles and overhead wires, which can be damaged by bad weather and are more difficult to maintain, with underground equipment. With the equipment safely out of sight and out of harm’s way, it reduces risks for both the public and our field teams. That means fewer outages, shorter interruptions, and a stronger, more resilient power supply.
What to expect
- A 100 tonne crane working from the circle on Glenwood Avenue
- Temporary road closure on Glenwood Avenue while the crane is operating
- Traffic management in affected areas
- Planned power outages to nearby properties (you’ll already have been notified by your retailer and Alpine Energy if you’re affected).
Safety first
Your safety, and the safety of our crews, is our top priority. We understand a large crane operating in a residential area may raise questions. Please be assured that all safety protocols will be strictly followed.
Please keep clear from work zones, especially near the crane, and follow all traffic and pedestrian management instructions. Our crews will work quickly and carefully to minimise disruption. We appreciate your patience and cooperation.
